When I was an evangelical Christian and doubting my faith, I can't tell you how many people came to me and told me not to read certain books.  Why can't you "work out the truth" on your own?

Yes, but that only seems to be characteristic of certain breeds. It's true of catholicum ignoramusum and highprotestantum ignoramusum.

One the other hand, populations of evangelicum ignoramusum often display colorful, youthful plumage and seem to be ascendant within the species.
