You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

I dare say a majority of American Christians have too. At the least, an overwhelming majority of Christian denominations in the U.S. have found a way to make their peace with biology, regardless of what the rank-and-file may think.
There are a disturbing number of Biblical literalists and anti-evolution crackpots in the U.S., but we might have an inaccurate sense of their real numbers. It could be that we just notice them because they are so loud and proud of their ignorance. I hope so anyway.

Listen you need to study the Bible or at least remember what's been posted in the past, it was 100 years between the time God told Noah to build the Ark and the time the flood came. The earth at the equator is roughly 25000 miles and the time the animals had was 36000 days. If you were to try and walk that you would end up walking an average of .7 mile a day seems quite doable to me, what about you.
