Nice virtue signalling.  Rolleyes

Call it what you want. I try to be fair and consistent. If I wasn't, I'd be just like the people im calling out. And personally I don't feel comfortable with myself if I do that.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

You're inferring something that wasn't implied. Last time I checked, the stats showed no significant difference in rates of depression between theists and atheists. I'm just replying to the bullshit claim that theism is detrimental to mental development.

Actually I watered it down quite a bit.  Angel

Sure - proof is in the pudding. Or, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Basically, I see a lot of fucked up people among the atheists here. I generally don't say anything except with Brian. Over in life sciences there's threads on the first page on social anxiety and Aspergers. Note that I don't post in those. But when one of you comes out and calls theists immature or maladjusted, that opens things up.

So, you're trying to somehow turn actual mental illness into a tu quoque towards people who are insulting towards your religion?

LMFAO.

So, why not say that from the outset instead of "Oh yeah? Well, you guys seem to be legitimately miserable/sick/damaged, so neener neener?"

I mean, yeah, the OP was insulting in some regards. Instead of bitching about it, why not take the high road? That's what Christians are supposed to do, right?

I actually wasn't referring to atheist behavior on the boards. Kernel incorrectly inferred that. I was referring to the miserable personal lives that so many of you have.

As apposed to your crappy existence do you mean? Having to endlessly tickle Gods balls for him.

You really do have delusions of grandeur don't you, even your user name suggests it.

I find that interesting. One of the advantages I find in the religious mindset is precisely their apprehension of an interested and sometimes helpful higher power. Of course you did say "reliance on" and wherever it amounts to that, what utility there may be otherwise is more than offset by the self abnegation. But god belief is not required to enjoy this advantage.

Neither do I. In terms of respecting/appreciating the gifts of the unconscious mind, fine. But I see no healthy way to construe that as 'worship'.

Yup.

Yeah, but only if you take it literally. Just because they do, I don't think it makes sense for us to foist literalism on what is better taken as metaphor.

Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

The child grows up dependent upon a system that tells them how to act, think, believe and what to value or hate.

This would be a fairly accurate description of society in general.
So hands up, anyone here who has found every theist they ever met to be childish.
Doesn't ring true to me.
