Guns have been used to stop crime? WELL NO FUCKING SHIT. Yea, that is why we give guns to cops and security guards, sure. Do civilians occasionally stop a bad guy with a gun? Yea, but not above the numbers of suicide, domestic violence accidental or neighbor on neighbor.

Do civilians get lucky sometimes? Yea, but the number of dead because of use of firearms outnumbers the lucky and it still remains most injuries and deaths happen in the home/neighborhood with someone the user knows.

Not mention the good guy with gun mantra defies human nature . No average Joe wants to be the hero . So most people present with a gun will never fire it.

I had the great joy of teaching guys where were high school seniors a few month earlier how to kill people. Most of them washed out. I got used to a phenomenon called "Self wash-out." The guys who couldn't face shooting the shit out of large numbers of people would just screw up until they were assigned a different job. 

I was happy to have one killer in twenty.

Not to mention their are many incidence were these"cowboys" make the situation worst .
