What are you making for Thanksgiving dinner?

What are you making for Thanksgiving dinner?
For those of us who are celebrating Thanksgiving, I thought it might be interesting to compare what everyone is making. We are celebrating T-day on Wednesday due to custody issues. So here's what I'm making:

Two turkeys: One 19 lb turkey and one 14 lb turkey
Homemade smashed potatoes
Candied yams
Green bean casserole
Corn
Homemade dinner rolls
Homemade apple pie, chocolate pie and pumpkin pie
Cranberry sauce
Gravy
Stuffing

I wrap my turkeys in food grade cheese cloth, cook upside down for the first hour, flip it then cook it right side up the rest of the way. I do not put the stuffing inside the turkey as I don't think raw juice from the meat running into the stuffing is safe (no matter what the inside temp reaches).

By the way... I was able to obtain the two turkeys, fresh, not frozen, at 68 cents per pound, instead of $1.99 per pound.  I didn't have a coupon but the store manager happened to be setting the turkeys out at that time. Big Grin

What's everyone else having?

We're planning on -

Roast turkey breast (fresh, not frozen or processed)
Homemade mashed taters
Homemade herb stuffing
Sweet potatoes
Homemade cranberry sauce
Green bean casserole
Pie

(I also do not cook stuffing inside the bird, primarily for food safety, not to mention the fact that we only do breast.)

What am I making? Nothing. Just another day to me. I will be watching the Redskins blow another game. Friday I will be going to a BBQ.

RE: What are you making for Thanksgiving dinner?
My wife and I don't eat meat so we won't be eating turkey. However, it's a benefit of my line of work that each year one of the vendors who supply the ships on the river gives all of the port agencies turkeys (one for each agent). We had originally thought to donate ours, but have decided instead to cook for the odd collection of friends and acquaintances we've taken under our wings. The dogs will get whatever is left over.

So I'll be cooking a turkey, and we'll host -- or otherwise bring plates to -- about ten people.

Also on the menu:
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Stuffing
Green bean casserole
Scalloped corn
Lefse (my mom sends me my fix every year)
Cranberry sauce
Maybe a pie. Depends on how ambitious I feel

I'm thinking fried pilgrim.

No, seriously, we don't do Thanksgiving.  But the question always reminds me of the time that a tourist in Belfast was shocked when she found out we didn't celebrate the 4th of July.  Smile

I will say this, I WILL miss buying the pre made deli meal for 2 from our local deli and heating it up in the microwave and eating with my mom and watching the games together. I will miss that. This will be my first Thanksgiving without my mom.

Neighbors invited me over for Thanksgiving meal. Accepted in 0.000001 milliseconds.

Yea, I don't have to fucking cook !!
