Thomas Hobbes always stuck with me. I can't remember if I read the Leviathon or just parts of it. But the guy was way way ahead of his time, it appears.

Think he might have seen Trump coming?  Lots of people are becoming poorer, public discourse is downright nasty, his treatment of women is brutish and his term in office will likely be short.

During my studies of philosophy, I've found the ideas of Immanuel Kant, Georg Hegel, Augustine, Arnold Toynbee, and Bart de Ligt to be interesting.

There are certainly some aspects that he's been correct on over the past couple centuries, although I'm not sure a Monarchy would have solved all our problems.
