New York has a ridiculous cost of living though lol. I recommend the Carolinas.

Yeah a lot of my cousins have moved there from California in order, as they say, "live large".  Another one who lived near me just went to Texas.  I'd rather live thrifty here, thank you.

Fish tacos at the Prado restaurant in Balboa park, the best I've ever had.  They only serve them at lunch.

It's been awhile for me (a little over 3 years, since I retired), but the seared ahi tuna tacos at the Bluewater Grill at the King Harbor Pier in Redondo Beach are pretty damned good.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

The Pacific Northwest. Oregon and Washington mainly. Most cities are not too big, plenty of natural beauty, not complete jesusland, liberal. Not as many fires as California either. Wink Tongue

Your reasons for leaving are negative, not positive, like, you love America and the people and its ways.
Stimbo, much respect for you brother, one of my favourite people here, but I've always felt that negativity is your downfall and it's understandable, you've been through some shit, but I think it will follow you where ever you go.
Nevertheless, I hope you have a great adventure and perhaps a change of scenery will be the catalyst for other good changes in your life. :-)

All I can say is you probably don't want to move to Ohio. We're probably the poorest and most backwards of the northern states. I haven't traveled very much to know what is a good to live.

Good luck!

I don't think I've been to Apple Creek. We have some Amish very near here in Monroe. Some people sell food made by them but some of it may be counterfeit.  I've been through Columbus by car and bus but I've never explored on foot. Never been to Zanesville, that I remember. Basically where I live there's not a real city for at least 50 miles. I'd kind of like to go somewhere better where it would be more likely to reach my goals in life, someday.

But that would take money and I am limited in my ability to work.
