Admitting You're a Sinner

Some of the more old school folks take the literal approach to Original Sin - that Adam and Eve ate an apple and we literally inherited their sin genetically. And that's fine too.

-and that -is- "fine"...because thats's official catholic doctrine..without which, the entirety of the roman catholic theology crumbles. It's foundational..and non-negotiable.

Quote:Doesn't matter whether you take the literal approach or not, the take away point is that as human beings we all have an inherent tendency to sin, aka original sin.
-and it does matter..because what you believe to be acceptable catholic doctrine..is self statedly not. The above is not the catholic doctrine of original sin..and if your catholic school or parrish taught you that it was...they have a serious crisis of faith going on with their staff and parishioners. They've resigned themselves to letting the inmates run the prison. This is a current, common, and serious problem in catholicism today..so sayeth the roman catholic apparatus.

You misrepresent the catholic faith with regularity and then get pissy when atheists "tell you what you're supposed to believe". Well, it's easy, because catholics have a list of what they're supposed to believe..and you should read it sometime. Original sin is a literal event in the real history of man..and the stain we inherit from our very real first parents. Not your "tendency to sin". This is the position of the catholic church, and unless you have aims to become the pope and somehow correct it..you're stuck with it.

Properly basic catholicism....and it's not even the silliest thing you're required to believe......
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

So we don't want to tread on anyone's toes because it will ruin our reputation?
Fair enough, we all do it.

What you are basically saying is that our relationships are on the horizontal and not the vertical, to each other, but not to an imaginary person in the sky.

Then whatever happens here, is only ever relevant to what or whom?
The majority, the closet group, the individual?
Do we really have a reference point, which isn't yet another repetition of failed history?

Deepak, is that you?

What exactly am I reinterpreting? This is what I was taught in my Catholic school and Catholic upbringing.

Your interpretation of original sin is Biblical, but the Catholic church does not have that view, even though you are a Catholic.

Evangelical christianity has subverted catholicism in america.  The protestants finally won. They had better food and music...

Uh ok
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

No chief, not a pigeon hole, a stone bridge.

And the Catechism of the Catholic Church says what, regarding Original Sin?

Quote:Original sin - an essential truth of the faith
388 With the progress of Revelation, the reality of sin is also
illuminated. Although to some extent the People of God in the Old
Testament had tried to understand the pathos of the human condition
in the light of the history of the fall narrated in Genesis, they could not
grasp this story's ultimate meaning, which is revealed only in the light
of the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.261 We must know
Christ as the source of grace in order to know Adam as the source of
sin. the Spirit-Paraclete, sent by the risen Christ, came to "convict the
world concerning sin",262 by revealing him who is its Redeemer.
389 The doctrine of original sin is, so to speak, the "reverse side" of the
Good News that Jesus is the Saviour of all men, that all need salvation
and that salvation is offered to all through Christ. the Church, which
has the mind of Christ,263 knows very well that we cannot tamper
with the revelation of original sin without undermining the mystery of
Christ.

There's more on it in there, much more... but this is basic I think.
