Guess what most of these people buy a gun for a different reason than they eventually use them for. Want to help to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally unstable, volunteer to help research the people who apply for a gun. It is a costly and time consuming job for those who are paid to do this job and there are not enough of them. By the way people who are denied a drivers license after an accident drive illegal any way and some wind up killing someone else in a wreck. No one raises cane about these people. Drunk drivers kill thousands each year, drunk drivers are not suppose to be driving, have any of you drove drunk? This is just a question to contemplate not answer in this thread. If you did you took a chance with someone else's life, kill yourself driving drunk is bad, killing someone else driving drunk is murder, if you do not think so ask the loved ones who have lost someone to a drunk driver. If we can't keep drunks off the roads with a deadly weapon, and we pay little attention to the incident of a drunk driver killing a child or adult and that is if  it even makes the news, then why are we so shocked when someone kills others with a gun. I find it appalling that we can be so callous about one and so upset about the other. I also find both types of crime appalling and as I've said before cars do not kill nor do guns. The only true reason some see that we should ban guns is because they like their car but dislike guns. Yet neither one has jumped up and killed anyone on their own. Takes a person behind the instrument to do the deed. Shell I know you wanted this to be a lite and comical thread but this was something I just had to say, sorry.

I never said guns are designed for killing people and nothing else. That's a distinction that you imposed on my words. Ballistic weaponry of the type under discussion is designed purely to propel a projectile at high velocity with the intention of causing injury and death. Whether the target of the weapon is human or not is immaterial; the weapon has no other purpose. A person wielding such a weapon, be it in a defensive or offensive situation, has to be anticipating that it is going to be fired at some point.

Like I said, in any other instance involving illegally dangerous driving or similar, we have measures in place to remove the offender's access to the vehicle. It's not going to ensure that they never re-offend, however they cannot then plead innocence of their actions and the penalties are going to escalate.

In a perfect world, I would love to see untimely deaths due to deliberate or negligent actions consigned to our violent history. Sadly we have to work with what we have. Throwing around red herrings and saying "but that guy's just as bad" does not constitute a defence of your own actions (using the generalised "you" for reasons of rhetoric), nor does it obviate the responsibility of cleaning up that part of the world that we can.

Well he does seem to have precariously balanced a loaded automatic rifle on a flimsy box so the slightest tremor could make it fall and then he (I'm guessing a he) would be in trouble.
