No, my argument is that Odin is a myth formed from older myths... The city of Babel existed... Their mythology also existed... That mythology was incorporated into Norse mythology. Therefore since Norse mythology is in no way original, it cannot be the truth, making Odin not real.

Got it?

I would strongly suggest you read some Norse mythology when you get the chance. Maybe then, you'll stop making such ignorant statements.

And maybe then you'll stop questioning our mighty god! Praise Odin!

In what way is Christianity original when it is a mythology wholly dependant on Judaism and when there were dozens of christ-like mythologies floating around at the time?

The OT is a myth formed from older myths and so is the character known as jesus.

If this is all your logic requires I think you just disproved your guy also.

That's another discussion, we're talking Odin.

Like I said, that's another discussion.

Quote:The Indo-European languages are a family of several hundred related languages and dialects.
Quote:Indo-European languages are spoken by almost 3 billion native speakers, the largest number by far for any recognised language family. Of the 20 languages with the largest numbers of native speakers according to SIL Ethnologue, 12 are Indo-European: Spanish, English, Hindi, Portuguese, Bengali, Russian, German, Sindhi, Punjabi, Marathi, French, Urdu, and Italian, accounting for over 1.7 billion native speakers.

Quote:The Anatolian hypothesis is that the Indo-European languages spread peacefully into Europe from Asia Minor from around 7000 BCE with the advance of farming (wave of advance).

Therefore seeing how the German Language can be traced back to Mesopotamia, it's not unreasonable for their pagan beliefs to be derived from that region also.

Yeah, what that guy said.   Rolleyes

Fun fact, though, is that christer mythology had a greater effect on what we know of norse mythology than babylonian mythology did..if it had an effect. Whatever effect either had, they were narrative modifying, as we understand the norse pantheon to be an expansion of native tribal gods. This relationship had an amusing second act..because they very deed of pushing into that cultural territory caused the christian tradition to change as well. Most of what people believe about hell is n. eurpean syncretism applied to an already syncretic judaism.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

More proof of Odin. I sacrifice christers to him the whole time.

Just because it only happens when I play CK2 doesn't make it any less real.

You still need to bridge the gap between the premises of your argument and the conclusion itself. Right now, the bridge (if there is any) is rather weak. You might even be able to strengthen your case by showing us what stories or details of stories or whatever were incorporated from Babylonian myths into Norse myths.

Huggy: So, if a deity evolved from older myths it can not be real? Is that what we are to understand?

It doesn't matter, he doesn't accept the argument himself.  Huggy is simply stepping on his own dick with this one.

It's reasonable to conclude there is no Odin, just as it's reasonable to conclude there is no Yahweh. They are both fantastical claims with virtually no evidence.

But proving they don't exist is an excercise in futility. Even if they were deliberately made up by someone, that doesn't stop them coincidentally existing somewhere outside of our ability to detect. The same goes for any nonsense I make up. The only yardstick we have is being logically consistent, but our ideas of logic might not translate very well outside of our local area.

Saying "Odin is just mythology" translates exactly to "Yawheh is just mythology". It's not proof of non-existence. We could just estimate that the chances of such a thing existing are slim, because they're so ridiculously specific and unlike anything we've ever encountered before.

I wonder if Huggy will ever realize that they are equivalent.
