Depends on what men and women get/take from porn.

What effect has is generally had on a whole - positive? Negative? Neutral?

Depends on which whole. Dunno

Yeah, but a lot of people think sex is something you're supposed to do under the covers with the lights off, because yu have to. It's evil to enjoy sex. Just lie back, and think of England.

RE: porn and women
It's not just about how the women who do porn are treated and whether it is physically and mentally healthy for them.

It's about how it conditions us, as a society, to view women and sex in general. Does it make women more insecure in bed? Insecure about their bodies? Does it cause women to be seen more as objects by other people (including themselves)? Does it make them feel expected to perform a certain way? Does it make men expect more in bed? Does it make men less easily satisfied/aroused by the real women they have sex with? Does it make men more selfish and less loving in bed? Does it negatively effect men's treatment of women in the dating/bedding scene?

...those are all things that will obviously have negative effects on women, if the answers are "yes". That's what I'm curious to know from people here, whether you think any of those answers would be yes.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Yep, you fear porn.

Yes. I fear its effects on women/society, as I said to you on the previous page.

How can one ascertain such a general effect from such a specific cause?

I think there are many tiers of cause and effect.
Some women find that the porn provides their partners with great ideas to put in practice, so they help add variety to their love lives... for those, I suppose it's a good thing.

Some women find that their partners start treating them much like the actors do in the movies.... that's not so good.
Some women find that their bodies can't compare to those young, slim, fit, etc bodies in the movies... not just the porn movies, though... so I doubt that this bit has a significant influence.

Some guys get problems because they can't perform as well as the guys in the movies... and that leads to a crappy lovelife and influences their ladies...
The counterpart is that some women expect their guys to perform as well as the movie guys... and, when they don't, the ladies get frustrated.

The reality is that it's a complex issue.
Porn is a movie, made with actors. The positions are on purpose for the camera, not for enjoying actual lovemaking.
When people try to copy it, it will rarely work out for the couple who want to enjoy each other.

It's my understanding Ilsa castrates (and worse) the men she ravages.  Not quite following the narrative of this topic, perhaps ?

But what do I know about the hetero side of the street ??

RE: porn and women
From what I've read by people in the porn industry, men get the worst of it. They're objectified according to a single body part, and the only way to really make money is to do gay porn. That said, everyone has a choice. If they didn't, it wouldn't be porn. It would be documented rape, which is obviously bad.

I think the sex industry in general is liberating for women. Mind you, I'm saying industry, not trafficking. Selling slaves for sex is obviously outside of the realm of what I'm talking about. Women who might not have otherwise made a mint in their 20s have the chance to cash in on their bodies. There are these magical women who literally don't have a connection to their bodies in the same way most of us do. I've caught a lot of Reddit talks with pornstars and prostitutes. These women just don't care if they fuck a lot of ugly guys, as long as they're clean. We (you and I) put an emotional value on our bodies and sex. It's important to us (in different ways). To them, it just isn't when it's outside of their romantic relationships. I think it's a great advantage and can make them a lot of money. Not to say they're all stupid, but some of them definitely wouldn't have a good living otherwise. Who are we to shame their means of doing well for themselves.

Are you looking for something to point the finger at when women are not treated by men/society the way you would like?
