I think that some should go back to read what the proposed topic was.

I'm thinking the same.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Yes there will be a mock thread and no popcorn for you .

I vote Vulcan for our moderator. If he would agree, and if no mod volunteers I guess.

I'm actually honored by your nomination. A moderator would probably be better suited to the job though, given their privileges. Also, I've never moderated a debate before, but I've participated in enough that I might do okay at it. In any case, thanks for thinking I'd do a good job with it.

Of course! I like you. You are level headed and objective.

So here are my proposed rules:

1 - Only one post per day but post can be as long as you want. That will limit the amount of back and forth chattiness.
2 - No using the quote function. Respond to each other by restating/paraphrasing the points made by others. That preserves the debate format.
3 - "Wall Street Journal" rule - language must conform to the editorial standards of a respected journal.

We'll have to select a moderator. Maybe some mod will volunteer.

Even though participation is limited to Christians, all AF members will be able to read and follow our discussion. However, I feel that it would be good to openly discuss the topic amongst ourselves. That's fine with me. I could just do without the heckling and having to explain myself to hecklers. I imagine a parallel thread formed to mock us but that's okay so long as they make enough popcorn for everyone.

All kidding aside, I think this is a very good idea. I've often wondered what motivates Christians to join atheist websites (and vicy-versy).  I'd be interested to learn how you view yourselves and your role here.  I hope it works out.

Good idea. Then Christians can stop posting on the rest of the forum Tongue
