What I’m saying is we don’t add subforums and then hope they get popular. If enough people show a demand for one, we’ll give it to them. Honestly I would start encouraging people to post their blog threads in off topic, and if we see a load of them being actively maintained I’ll be happy to create a new subforum.

Blog section?

For the record, I am uncommitted and ill equipped.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

I hear you, but not sure that would work in the off topic section. It was just a suggestion. Thanks for discussing it with me, here.
If it won’t work in off topic, it won’t work in a separate subforum. If thread tracking is your problem, use the “subscribe to this thread” feature. Updated blog threads will always rise to the top of Off Topic. Unless there is another problem you are seeing?
I've just only observed it and have participated in ones that already have the subforum formed...so, maybe I'm biased because the forums I've seen blogs/journals running, have the subforum already as a separate thing. So, it could work, I've just only seen active journal sections in already formed sections for them, so that's my only point of reference to go on.
I’ve never seen blogs in a forum. Could you link to a forum that has them so I can get an idea of what functionality you’re talking about?

Yeah, but just have a sub section specifically for it. I mean there isn't really a good place for it. It could be like a blog/stories section. Off topic is too broad for it, they would get lost in the clutter.
Subscribe.

I also think there would be enough participation in it to warrant a subsection. You could also have stories there, i have good stories to tell.
Plus it would be nice to have a place to go on the forum to see just that, and the new ones too. Off topic gets buried pretty quickly, so it's not just a matter of subscribing, not to mention not everyone does that. And I think it's just an idea worth it's own subject. I mean, video games has its own section. I also think it would be good to find out more about people here, build more community and empathy between members to humanize them by finding out what their day to day lives are like. Honestly I think that is already happening, it's just in the 'what are you up to right now' thread. But the problem with that thread is that its too cluttered, and its hard to get a perspective on the individuals, also there are tons of stories about day to day life and about a million threads of people bitching about work, which is more of less a blog/life stories. It's just all in the clutter of the off topic. If you build it, they will come! (May 11, 2018 at 10:37 am)Shell B Wrote: I’ve never seen blogs in a forum. They have it placed under ''general'' which for AF, that would be equal to the ''off topic,'' but this gives you an idea of how they have a separate subforum for the journals/blogs. |
