Satirical logic for the atheistic mind
RE: Satirical logic for the atheistic mind
Drich's last post made me chuckle.

I'm surprised no one has made a sitcom about such a character.

Why then is it sooo.. easy for you to see and make fun of the faith of other WHEN YOU ARE PRACTICING THE EXACT SAME THING?!?!?!?!?

Well, let's examine your thesis here, Drich.

There are several definitions of faith, but the two that seem to come up most frequently in relation to religion are a) trust in something that has proven itself worthy, b) firm belief in something without proof. Well, let's compare science and religion to see if the parallel upon which your satire depends actually exists.

What does science promise? Well, science as a rule doesn't make promises, but generally people who put faith in science do so in the hope that science will deliver meaningful progress, both in terms of longer lives and a higher quality of life.

What does the Christian religion promise? It promises that if you have faith in the life and resurrection of Jesus Christ, you will be rewarded with eternal life in heaven.

So what have the respective "religions" delivered with respect to their promises?

Science has given us modern agriculture and medicine, computers, cell phones, global communication, GPS systems, longer lives and an overall higher standard of living.

Christianity gives us more promises of an afterlife which no one can even demonstrate exists. In a word, nothing.

So which definition of faith appears most appropriate to science? That it is trust in something which has shown itself worthy. And which definition of faith applies to the Christian religion? The definition that faith is firm belief in things that have not been proved.

So, no, Drich, you didn't create a meaningful satire by copying Valkyrie's post and substituting a few words, and you haven't shown that anybody is a hypocrite for finding your lame parody strange and not finding Valkyrie's satire similarly puzzling. All you've accomplished is showing that you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

As noted previously, you are a fucking moron, as well as a liar for Jesus.

So you know enough about astrophysics to say they’re wrong?

As I said this comes from scientist making the statement. What's wrong with repeating them.

Why anyone can tell lies, even you can with your poor memory. Doesn't matter what he thinks it's what he can prove about me that would count.

I suspect that you didn't speak to a real professional scientist. Which field are you talking about for a start? Things can be very different for each field. See, if you had moaned about the pressure to publish or perish it would have given your post more credibility, but what you said is more akin to a popular misconception by non-scientists.

like I posted to ShellB, it was not my statement it came from another on a National Geographic show.

GC
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
