One thing that pissed me off and contributed to my leaving religion-this insistence on tithing. Neither Jesus nor Paul command Christians to tithe. In fact when it's mentioned in the Old Testament, it's a tithe of FOOD. That's right FOOD. To be given only to: the Levites, the poor, and the person tithing. It was only to be required of those who produce or deal in food and crops. It's total bullshit intended to separate people from their money.

It contributes greatly to the stigma many Christians have for those on government assistance that often don't (and often can't) tithe.


Then you have the scripture where Paul says "If you don't work you don't eat." further adding to stigma. So, fuck the disabled I guess.

Per the 4th Commandment (Exodus 34:19-20) anytime you appear before Yahweh (or the church) you're supposed to bring something, cash is preferred nowadays instead of a dead chicken.

But as for the bible verse, I think the part about not coming in empty handed is referring to the earlier part of that same verse talking about redeeming the first born.

John Haggee is truly an idiot. He talked about grabbing a dude around the collar for swearing. I still remember that from my Jesusey days. I wish I could find a clip of it. If it happens again I hope he gets headbutted.

In the story about the wise men bringing gifts to baby Yeshua it illustrates the clause from the 4th Amendment about not appearing before God empty-handed.  It shows that they saw him as God.

Had to look up this '4th Amendment' thingy and I found:

'The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.'

So....not really following you, here.
