Ah... I only knew that song really (well, single)... I don't follow the cult of celebrity.

It's just strange to find that a homophobe and a Christian would choose to make that song in the first place. I still like the song, but the whole thing's just weird to me now. I wonder what these revelations are going to do for their sales... could go either way I think.

Actually, at the time she made those remarks, she was Muslim. And I don't think she was a committed believer in anything when she sang that song. And, of course, t.A.T.u. was more a manufactured band than an organic band. They did not write that song, they were just told to perform it, and presumably paid handsomely for it.

Also, their time has long come and gone. A drop in sales might not mean that much anyway. The band itself is defunct, at any rate.

Right, sorry, wrong religion then but same principle. Anyway, interesting... I take it you are... or were a big fan then? If they're defunct now then I guess their sales... or at least their profile... will go up with all this... 'No such thing as bad publicity' and all that and it could maybe be a PR ploy in the first place... a little bit of controversy to resurrect a dead band.

I was a fairly big fan. Their second album wasn’t as good, and I figured out that once you stripped the “lesbian schoolgirls” fantasy from it, there wasn’t a lot of substance to the music. To be honest, I only found out about them after they came out as straight girls pretending to be lesbians, because, well, when it comes to Russian culture, Americans are always a step behind. I was a bit late to the party, to be honest.

Pretty much. To be fair, their heyday was back when it was legitimately daring. At the time, the video was banned from several music video shows for being too steamy (the potentially underage girls might have had something to do with it, even if there wasn’t any actual porn in it.)
