Tried making vegan burgers. . .

Tried making vegan burgers. . .
Not sure why, but I got tired of eating goddamned broccoli every day.  Go figure!

So I ordered a bunch of stuff from the States and tried to make a vegan burger.

The bread was just basic bread with a little flax seed added for texture.  I forgot about it while it was sitting, and it turned out super-duper extra soft and fluffy.

The sauce is vegan mayo (super good, surprisingly) with a couple chipotle peppers and the adobo sauce they were packed in, and a little bit of Tostitos sals.

The patties were made with a can of black beans, a scoop of pea protein that I'm trying desperately to use, and a cup or two of breadcrumbs to bind it together.  I added a lot of flavoring: some taco seasoning mix, sriracha, black pepper, chili powder, onion and garlic powders.

I was surprised how tasty it was.  I fried the heck out of the patties to get a charred taste, and that with the chipotles gave it a nice BBQ flavor.  I felt it tasted as good as some of the vegan burgers I've had in restaurants.

My only problem (and this is true of 99% of vegan hamburgers) is that the texture of the patty wasn't chewy enough.  I'm going to experiment with textured proteins and see if I can come up with something that feels better.  But taste-wise. . . YUM! Big Grin

I am not a fan of mayo, so I too was surprised at how good vegan mayo is.

Yeh tbh I like it a lot better.  It has a little more tang to it, less of an egg-y taste.

You can make burgers out of vegans? I knew they were good for something.

I drank 7 liters of good quality water yesterday and suppressed appetite with ease.

Nice work Smile I love me some vegan burgers. Things are finally progressing here to the point where many restaurants offer them, and they're generally really good.

But have you tried real mayo? The stuff that you make yourself with egg yolks, oil and Dijon mustard?

That burger did look nice and I would try one.

No, I was using a euphemism that refers to a man's spunk.

Of course, I've had real mayo. I just can't stand the taste of it.

Well, next time you're euphemising, aim for my face cause that went right over my head. :-)

. . .

So you managed to make vegan cooking even gayer than normal?

And I talked about it being all zesty and stuff.

Cool. That's what I get for sharing Sad

Dude.

Some of the vegan restaurants in Korea now (run by super-hot Western girls always for some reason). . . but anyway, it was those restaurants that make me think being vegan can be a thing.  SO GOOD food there.
