My Spidey senses are tingling.  I've seen this particularly clunky quote style elsewhere, probably on another forum, sometime in the last year or so.  The avatar and username were different, though.

Negatio, in the Philosophy section a few months back.

Nah. Different style. Negatio was plainly incompetent and disturbed. I'm holding my opinion, but I haven't gotten to that place with Everena. Negatio couldn't help himself. Everena can.

If the amount of pain and suffering on this rock exists as an intentional plot to make us better, then doesn't every improvement we make on this rock to alleviate that suffering make the soul mill that much less effective?  God used to teach us a lesson with polio, but then we eradicated it - is he up there cooking up some new disease to hit us with, or is he giving up?

How will we ever get our souls to the point of optimal refinement if we keep improving our earthly lives?

The notion that suffering somehow cleanses or refines us is sickening.

Describe the theory of evolution by natural selection and demonstrate that you understand what you are dismissing.

Otherwise we can easily dismiss what you say.

I think so too.  Ultimately, even though her conclusion is faulty, Ev sees in things like food what a person who actually did understand evolutionary biology would call artificial selection.

This much is undeniably true, the food we eat has been artificially selected and it's entirely implausible that these cultivars would have arisen naturally.  It's fairly common for people to be unaware of the origins (and the engineer) of the things we eat, and this ignorance is all that's required to produce the non sequitur that informs her beliefs.

Goes like this.

"All of this food couldn't have gotten here by chance"
Correct.

"This food is designed for us"
Correct.

"Therefore meat fairy"
Negatron...we're the meat fairy.  -Therefore us-

Hell, lol..if anyone actually is inflicting pain and suffering to effect personal improvement upon human beings.......that's also us, and not the meat fairy. We do it all the time. The ideas themselves aren't completely insensible. It remains to be seen whether her pride, however, will allow her to make herself a better person.

In fairness, I think you may simply be talking past one another. How food originally arose may be somewhat mysterious and inexplicable. How we have the abundance of food to feed the people we do is itself no mystery. We did that. And largely by the same method which, on its own, explains the first.

Sure, I'm entirely certain that we're talking past each other.  I'm addressing the contention she raised rather than what is actually informing her beliefs.  As soon as she figures that out she'll understand why the whole food bit isn't required for her silly beliefs and can only damage it's credibility.

The soul making theology requires that a god put us in a position like that.  Naked and cold and hungry and afraid.  That's how the soul mill is supposed to work.

The meat fairy isn't handing out cookies, it's telling us to make our own goddamned cookies, and so we did, lol.

-that she refuses to believe in such a universe but simultaneously asserts that this world was made for exactly that purpose is just the garnish on a nutter salad.  Wink

No, not quite.  Writing style is very different, although posters both use a nonstandard way of quoting.  Pretty sure they aren't the same person.

No you haven't. You've won nothing. I am beginning to think you are a sock of CDF because this is the exact same thing he has been saying since page one of this redundant thread.
Nice try though. Thanks for playing.

That was my first thought as well. It's quite common for trolls to create a sock account to argue alongside them.

I have attended academic conferences which had workshops or symposiums on consciousness which attended by neuroscientists and artificial intelligentsia and we have many ideas as to why we have consciousness.

The nonsense that "they" have no idea what consciousness is, another of her lies.

My own research concurs with the following:

The synchronized vibrations of matter could provide an answer to the mystery of consciousness

I was wondering why my results keep coming back to sine waves and fourier transforms. I have some interesting results that I have been struggling to explain as part of a larger context. I need be able to do this to publish the results. But when I saw the above article posted on Facebook and  read it, it all clicked. All of matter vibrates. The problem people have is that they see the brain as it currently is. They don't take into account how it has developed and why. If you consider it as part of a process that extends back to before the development of the first single celled organisms, then it starts to make sense why it's important that everything vibrates. Our sense of smell, taste, light waves,  they're all made up of combinations of frequencies. So it's no wonder that neurons themselves have firing rates that change over time.

I've never seen a "problem" with consciousness.
We know it's entirely dependent on functioning brains. They have "mapped" individual functions (hearing, judgment, planning etc) to specific identified brain areas, which ... if damaged by trauma or stroke or other diseases, impair that function. Sensory inputs, rapidly referenced to memory produces what we experience as "now", (but in fact isn't "now" ... it took a few nanoseconds to "process the inputs", so it's really already "past".
Every religion is true one way or another. It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck in its own metaphors, interpreting them as facts, then you are in trouble. - Joseph Campbell  Popcorn
