RE: Is atheism a belief?
December 9, 2018 at 2:52 pm
I think the main problem is that some people do not understand the concept of not having a belief system in regards to god or gods. It plays such a part in their life that not giving a damn about it seems odd somehow.
I also do not follow sports teams and some blokes find that odd too. "what team do you support?" is a common question. They don't ask if I support a team they ask which one. There is the same assumption there that these things hold the same importance to me that they do for them and they just don't.
Then 9/11 happened and showed me what a dedicated theist will do and I was intrigued by the delusions that would lead them to that. And so I am here. Via my friend Darwinian who led me to this world.

Please describe the belief all theists have in common. Belief in a supreme being or deity.
And let me tell you what you are gonna do next: you are desperately going to look for a counterexample, a dishonest one if necessary, then you are going to repost, ignoring the rest, particularly my challenge to tell the specifics you claimed beforehand about atheism.
The definition of 'god' is simply 'an object of worship', this can literally mean to be anything.
Some theists don't believe in one supreme being or deity, they believe in many different deities, Hinduism recognizes millions of deities.

What doctrine do all theists have in common?
What theory do all theists have in common?
What system do all theists in common?
You tell me, i am no teist and i havent defined others´peoples beliefs with specifics. Isnt it pretty disingenuous to ask somebody else to make your own stpuid argument for you?
Now back to my original question. Why arent you simply answering it? I didnt claim atheism was a thing, you did, and you gave some pretty specific criteria. How comes you cant coment on the criteria you gave yourselves for other peoples´beliefs, not even a single one?
Why is arguing in good faith such a big issue for you? Is it because you are a troll?
Ahh, here come the 'troll' accusations.
I was simply just pointing out that 'atheism' is referencing an godless system, YOU'RE the one that took that to mean it had to be one definitive system that all atheists must be part of.
Atheist religions exist... where would you file them under, theism or atheism?
Atheist and atheism are two different things.
You can be a theist without being involved in theism...

Then you have reduced god to virtually nothing .

Because it what your doing
Quote:I was simply just pointing out that 'atheism' is referencing an godless system,
You have been schooled on this no such thing exists
Quote:YOU'RE the one that took that to mean it had to be one definitive system that all atheists must be part of.
Let alone that
Quote:Atheist religions exist... where would you file them under, theism or atheism?
In the sense they accept a god yes . In the sense that anything else they believe is part of atheism nope . And also point out as i have before everyone of the so called atheist religions have some form of deities .
Quote:Atheist and atheism are two different things.
Yup and your point
Quote:You can be a theist without being involved in theism...

So you went the dishonest route by conflating the commonly understood usage of "god" with a metaphorical use in order to try to bring atheism down to your level. "I know you are but what am I" may work when you are a child but it just shows the weakness in your position. Atheists respect and admire many things; some even like recreating many of the community aspects that they valued from their time as believers; that doesn't make them religious or link them to any "god" or make atheism a religion. If you are so embarrassed by not being able to admit that some people don't have a need to rely on a god then you need to work on your self-esteem.

Not all believe in the same deity but different ones? Why didnt you chose the word "supreme" for your intentional misunderstanding. There was much more room to wiggle with BS stories for you, troll.

Ahh, here come the 'troll' accusations. Yeah, as i expected and promised, lots of trollish BS, but no comment to the topic at hand: Your claims and specifics for atheism, of which you simply cant tell or indentify a single one.

No, you claimed its a belief. What is the atheists´ belief?
(December 9, 2018 at 12:03 pm)Huggy74 Wrote: Atheism is undoubtedly a belief, don't delude yourself.
Belief in this case is referring to an ideology / idea. Atheism is an ideology, ("ism" in 'atheism' means "a distinctive doctrine, theory, system, or practice") hence why you guys are constantly trying to form tactics to try and actively counter theist arguments... Now whats the atheistic *distinctive doctrine, theory, system, or practice*?

Only if you're a filthy one. And I would agree with you in that atheism is a religious position, in that it is a stance on religious ideas about gods, one in the negative.
That being said, a religious position doesn't come close to being a religion in itself. You really do need a lot more than an idea.

Damn. He's so smart. And like dumbasses, we've been sacrificing all the good virgins instead of something useless like personal integrity.
