I'm not talking about countries in which atheism is illegal. How should an atheist react to discrimination in a non theocracy?

Could you be a bit more specific? Do you mean discrimination against other people, like Muslims? Or discrimination against ourselves? RE: How should an atheist react to discrimination?

What kind of discrimination? Here there are laws against provable discrimination. Have never run across it here. An employer may not ask. It is also considered bad manners here to discuss religion socially, say at a party. One-to-one only if you know a person very well. It's come up once for me; at a friends house . One of his adult daughters had recently been converted by on of those appalling happy clappy churches, and was full of fervour. Because she 's my friend's daughter, I remained civil and changed the topic as soon as I could. This forum is the only place where I discuss my beliefs in any detail. That's because it's anonymous
I just roll my eyes and say ok if I'm not at work. If I am at work I smile and nod then tell them to have a good day.

"Hey. . . please stop discriminating against me!"
I haven't faced actual discrimination. Disdain, sure, but no one's been like, "Hey, you can't have this cake because you're an atheist."
I was discriminated against when I tried to buy a home in Belfast. The estate agents had been instructed not to entertain offers from non-Protestants. Fucked 'em, though - bought the house through a proxy.
