I can't imagine why. Who would think it is unreasonable to charge a pregnant woman with getting shot? Dodgy

You start a fight with the wrong person, you get shot. I don't know what to tell you.

Yes, long term bad policy, and a long term ignorance of history. There certainly is more to it, I agree.

There is a problem when a white guy shoots up a movie theater, and another white guy shoots up a black church, but still make it into police custody without being murdered. But Eric Garner is choked to death without being armed, Sandra Bland dies in jail after a minor traffic stop to which she should not have been arrested.

1. Our police are not paid to be juries and executioners. This is an oversimplification of a long term systemic problem.

Long term America has not faced our history of institutionalized bigotry. It is why even today the asshole in the White House on top of calling Hispanics rapists, tried to change the census and even now suggested it be delayed, which is unconstitutional. My Hispanic neighbors are NOT gang members, not violent, both have bought their own houses and are not here to undermine the pay of white people.

2. It is a FACT that even today, but along with the past, America's economic history, and justice history has hurt black and brown people ON AVERAGE far more negatively.

3. Insisting on keeping memorials to sick fucks who fought to keep the vile institution of slavery isn't "preserving history", it is honoring horrible people. "Preserving history" is what the Holocaust Museum does as a reminder of what not to do to your fellow human beings.

Twice in my life I encountered police whom could have shot and killed me by today's standards of "fear for your life, and shoot first", but did not.

When I was a kid, I had a toy replica glock, full sized, cap gun replica, no red nose. Those toys eventually were stopped manufactured because of too many police encounters. I was playing with it and someone heard the pops and called police. He drew his gun on me, but gave me a chance to put it down which I did. Yet there is video of a kid playing with a BB gun whom didn't even aim it at them, and was shot and killed through the window of the car.

Second time a cop would have been justified in shooting me, by our "shoot first" standards was when I was pulled over for speeding and threw my wallet at a cop, and hit her in the chest. A black person would have been more likely to be charged with assault even if they made it to jail. I was charged with disorderly conduct. But once again, I didn't die, even though I could have been seen as a threat.

The  GOP for decades has sold fear between rural people and government, and fear between rural people and urban blacks. Blacks are not anti police, they are not committing crimes at a higher rate, they are simply being arrested more and charged more harshly at a higher rate.

The issue isn't about the woman being shot.  It is about her being shot by someone else and being charged with the death of her foetus.

I have heard of those cases. It's what makes me suspicious that there's more going on when the shooter isn't charged, even though the woman who started the fight is.

You are still not getting it.

Police are not juries or judges, they are not paid to do that. They are paid to protect even those they get called to investigate, even if that person has warrants. Even if a stupid kid like me is playing with a toy that looks real, I don't deserve to die. Having a bad day and mouthing off to an officer also should not end up in death. Both with playing with that toy cap gun, and throwing my wallet at the police officer, did not end up in my death. Blacks and other minorities are far more likely to be treated more harshly by police and courts than I was.

We should not have the long term goal of shoot first. Police want to make it home at night as much as the public wants to make it home to their families.

The long term solution is economic stability for all zip codes urban, suburban and rural. The long term solution is to train police de escalation tactics and provide them with more non lethal means of detainment. Hire more police from the places they police. More door to door contact outside of calls so that those whom live there are familiar with them. But also even more importantly STOP making firearms like candy and handing them out like candy, in any zip code, rural, suburban or urban. Pay livable wages to all workers in rural, suburban and urban zip codes.

Blacks and Hispanics are no different than whites and do want safe environments to live in. If you want long term solutions to reduce crime, keep reading this post and stop ignoring the real inequity that does exist.

There is more going on: a mother can be charged for the death of her fetus in Alabama. That's the entire thing. She wasn't charged with assault and battery, as might be appropriate in a case of 'she started it'. She's being held accountable for the accidental death of her fetus, period.

It is reasonable to hold an assailant accountable for the death of your fetus because they have no right to terminate your pregnancy against your will. Holding the mother accountable is a different matter altogether.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

I can agree with all of that.

I think this still misses the bigger picture. Pregnant or not, minorities male, or female, warrants or not, are still far more likely to be charged more severely than whites, even if they make it to trial.

I am not female or pregnant. But if I had warrants on me, I am far more likely to be charged less severely.

The "more" going on, is long term, in  a white majority fearing change.

It seems to be Human nature to fear change. Pick any two or three generations, and the older generation will bemoan that the newer generation isn't doing things right. My room mate has been called lazy for not wanting to work 12+ hours a day, 5-6 days a week, for 8-9 dollars an hour.
