Enforce existing regulations. Fund the regulatory agencies and defend their actions in appeals. Target specific firearms based on trace data for increased regulations while instituting a buyback on all targeted firearms. De-militarize the vast majority of police forces and aggressively confront ethno-nationalist recruiting. Finally, increase access to routine mental health care while hardening our schools and public venues.
( I think a ban is getting more and more likely, though, one which will fail as and for the same reasons as the last ban)
I was thinking treating guns in a similar way to how we treat tobacco would be a good idea too... in that we spam the public with ads. Just a shit ton of public information campaigns to make sure guns are being used properly and being stored properly so they're not stolen or fall into the wrong hands.

Tobacco was recognized as a primarily medical issue in a society where the medical establishment was credible and wasn’t wholly owned by big tobacco.
Guns are considered a primarily social issue in a society where no real well established social institutions that favor gun control are as well financed or as vested in gun control as those who are opposed to gun control are financed and vested in thwarting gun control.

And - they don't want to know. OR you just don't like the idea of a ban on this items.
I personally don't give a fuck if they DO ban guns.
I have more than a lifetime's supply.

I don't like where disarming the citizens ends up.
For examples - see Russia and China...

Right. You and your 38 at Tiananmen Square would have stopped PLA tanks and mechanized infantry.

This seems like a poor argument to me when you look at countries like the UK for instance that have neither easy access to guns or totalitarian regimes.

That's your opinion.
What we call self defense in the US - they call vigilantism in the UK. I like not going to jail for protecting myself.
