[Serious] Poetry
#1
Poetry
I want to get an accurate rating for my poetry.
Please don't troll, but vote and leave a comment.

Now I will write a small sample for you:

My sight became weary
It became tired and hazy
I didn't feel it's wet and rainy
I wished if I wasn't lazy
But my thoughts were full of clouds
They were full of worry
They were scared of a pawn that shouts
They were locked behind the crowds
The infamous crowds that look so scary

In all seriousness. having been writing since the late 80s. I can tell you you will always have critics. Trust me. This isn't a Muslim vs Christian vs Jew vs atheist thing. This is just an artist vs critic issue.

My advice is to be you, write what you like. Don't take it personally if others don't like it.

I myself do get tired of the "that sucked" bullshit argument. It isn't that they are always wrong, but mostly in that they take one poem out of a long body of work and assume all of it is bad.

My opinion of this individual piece is that I do like the flow. That is all I can say about it. What I like about it is that it is you.

One thing about my critics that I hate, isn't that they are always wrong. I have laid some duds. What you wrote just now is not a dud, but to me only.

I like it.

The best person you can be is yourself. Keep putting yourself into your writing, you will find enough people who get it, even if they don't get everything you write.

Thank you tons for your advice; Brian. "Being myself" is what I should focus on.

Atlass, as with all art, it really only takes one piece. I will not defend most of my work. But depending on individual piece, I have many out of the thousands I have written, I will defend tooth and nail. Keep writing. What matters are not the eggs you lay or the bad ones you write, but that you just do. Do it enough there will be individual works enough people will like.

Outside poetry, could you work on not assuming everyone in the west wants to lynch you for living where you live?

I have a friend named Mustafa from Pakistan, he is fucking awesome. He hates Trump and Bibi as much as I do. Now while he does not write poetry, he does get that all 7 billion of us are the same species and is willing to treat individuals as individuals.

If you like writing poetry, just do it. I love writing poetry, and even on this website, my fellow atheists have had a few words for me. Don't take it personally. Just be you.

"In My Life" By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB and @brianrrs37 on Twitter)

In my life
I have been overseas
To Luxembourg, France
And Switzerland

In my life
I have been all over
The United states, from Florida
To Arizona and California

In my life
I have been
To Japan , Tijuana
And inbetween

Been to New York
Been to Michigan
Been to Alabama
And the same thing I've seen

The most frustrating thing
No matter our differences
We fail to see
We still are the same species

Simply eating
Different food
Simply wearing
Different cloths

But all of us wanting
To survive
None of us wishing
To die

RE: Poetry
I dislike virtually all poetry, finding it pretentious, and all the more so because it is extremely quick and easy to put together compared to, say, literature, graphic novels, film, oil paintings, music composition and production etc etc etc so when people act like their poetry is all serious and profound and shit...er...yeah, pretentious. Never read it, if I can help it. The few poets I've actually met are also amongst the least likeable people I've met, so that jibes.

You got us. Our lot in life is to piss everyone off to the point of being hated like Hitler, Po Pot, Stalin and Hitler.

Or you simply don't know how to judge individual poems.

Art is nothing more than message, be it music, painting, sculpture or movies. Nobody is going to like all of any of that !00% of the time. But we all can find messages we like.

You got me. It is why you are a world famous art critic.

Your problem isn't that you have your own tastes. Your problem is that you stupidly think everyone has to think like you.

RE: Poetry
I just wish these pretentious poets would stop pretentiously flapping their pretentious, quick, easy, small poems around like they've reinvented the wheel, when all they've really done is "make a pretty pattern" out of a few dozen words which took them far less than 30 mins to assemble, in all likelihood.
