Also, if there is nothing to condemn in our society, then there would be less room for heroism in it.

What i mean is there should be no reason for her to have to commit such an act . And i disagree even an ideal society could have heroes as even an ideal society would still need to overcome something .

It was her choice.  She could have easily gone on the dole and made enough that way to support herself and the kids.  It isn't always outside circumstances that define heroism.  Sometimes it's what we do when we don't have to.

I guess I have a higher standard.

When an individual risks their life for others - that's heroic.... It has to be above and beyond the call of duty.

Just doing your job - even in an excellent manner - just doesn't cut it....

Parenthood is heroic .Too have another human life in ones charge .How could it not be?

Children are optional.

Nobody makes you have them.

If you do have them - you have an obligation to take care of them.
