It is illegal to use a handheld mobile phone whilst driving here in the UK, and rightly so, imo.

Driving While Innocent. STUPID ROUND PLANET!

It sits in a holder mounted to the windshield and I can answer it by touching a button next to my thumb on the steering wheel. I am more likely to take my eyes off the road when speaking to a passenger in my car than when using the phone. That's a fair point. It really isn't possible to eliminate all distractions while driving. Boru

In all seriousness, until self driving vehicles become a daily reality, it is never good to take your eyes off the road. It is certainly true humans have learned to multitask while driving. But as I said before in a prior post, it doesn't matter what takes your eyes off the road. Reaching for your cigarettes, wallet, coins, or food, anything can become a distraction. The more you try to do while driving the increase of an accident goes up. A much as I hate corporate America, I have seen one car insurance ad that I like. I forgot the company, but the ad has two cars at a stoplight, just like "Rebel Without A Cause", street racing motif implication. But in this ad, the dorky guy without the muscle car ends up at the traffic light with a testosterone asshole daring him to race him. But the dorky guy lets the dare slide, wants no part of it, because he accepts safe driving is better. That is one good thing that corporation promotes. I would also like to see a ban on animals running free in the cab of a vehicle. Ask Stephen King if he thinks it's cool to have animals loose in a driver's space.... I like the people who make a pop tart look like a cell phone and then get pulled over.
The officer accuses them of being on the phone while driving and then he takes a bite of the pop tart phone. "You mean this phone" ?

Much better that the cop be tied up with Mister Idiot Pop Tart boy than be gallivanting around responding to robberies or domestic violence calls. Boru
