Drinking again/still?  Your "charm" is showing.

Five is a pleasant member of the forum who is having conversations with others here.  If that doesn't suit you, there are other threads.

RE: The Trinity
I apologize for upsetting others. As I explained, I was on a Christian forum months ago and everything else about Christianity I think I have figured out. But I felt like the Trinity question still didn't make sense, but I wasn't sure if that was because of me growing up LDS or if it just really doesn't makes sense.

I had concerns about asking that here but went ahead anyway because I figured this would be a safe place. Nobody here was going to quote Bible verses at me or exhort me to be saved; nobody was going to bully me if I pushed and poked further. I am curious because there are SO MANY, Christians. And they all believe this thing that I have never gotten a straight answer about. It's always been that garbled, sideways mouth talk that was in some of Grandizer's post(great post by the by, just breaking it all down for me; truly, thank you. It also outlines exactly what I sort of understood about it but with clarity in your points). Like, I get it, it's "magic" but I was interested in picking it apart; is it DID God? Is it cognitive dissonance? Is it "just shut up and faith!" ? Or is there a piece I'm missing?

I know the folks here are probably used to proselytizing trolls; we get them on the ex-Mo forums too and it's invasive and disrespectful. I'm here asking these questions because I'm free here to not be hassled to conversion and I can poke at the ideas as much as I want without being banned for heretical posting. I just wanted to clear that up.

Please don't think you did anything wrong or caused any upset.

Unfortunately it can be a trigger for some when a serious conversation starts.  And there are a few militant atheists who feel some need to shout from the rooftops - sort of reverse evangelicals - if you will.

I like questions such as the one you posed because it makes me think about some of the more specific reasons that I turned away from religion.  I don't have a problem with rethinking things and have learned a tremendous amount on this forum and the forum I used to be on.

The differences in what are supposedly Christian religions are something I find fascinating.

You are nowhere near a ban.

And I think "shut up and faith" is a very large part of most religions, if not all.

RE: The Trinity
Gradizer gave a good summary. Some variation exists of course. My denomination tends to side with the narrative that although Christ was fully God he nevertheless became fully human. He is divine in title but not nature.

Regardless, the concept of the trinity seems internally coherent. There are similar metaphors everywhere we look: we talk about a single atom although we know its three separate particles, we use 2-in-1 body wash, and the list goes on. I think where the concept becomes incoherent for some is when they try to make it fit into some external category. For example, wanting Christianity to be strictly either monotheistic or polytheistic.

RE: The Trinity
A particle in an atom does not embody the fullness of the whole atom, right?
