COVID cure for MS patients.

COVID cure for MS patients.
I need help to understand this report:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7467844/

It's about COVID and MS. With all the talk about the cure I had to educate myself more about the condition and the effect, I'm not going to take any injection before asking a doctor of Neurology though.

But do you have any light you can shed on this?

RE: COVID cure for MS patients.
Maybe this will help.

Quote:Abstract
Infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), leading to Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), is not always confined to the respiratory tract, while patients with can develop neurological manifestations. The patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) pose challenges in this pandemic situation, because of the immunosuppressive medications they get and the fact that viral infections may contribute to MS exacerbation and relapses as an environmental factor in genetically predisposed individuals. Herein, possible consequences of COVID-19 which may carry for the MS patients and the underlying mechanisms of its impact are discussed.

Just skimming through the paper, it looks like the COVID is more of a risk to MS patients than the vaccine. Consult your physician.

Looks like I complicated the issue by reading a wrong kind of study..

This provided an answer:

https://www.medpagetoday.com/neurology/m...osis/90697

Quote:Most people with relapsing and progressive forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) should get a COVID-19 vaccine, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society advised.

The new guidance, issued January 13, is similar to ones issued by the MS International Federation and other organizations and refers to mRNA vaccines by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna only.
"The risks of COVID-19 disease outweigh any potential risks from the vaccine," National MS Society experts wrote. "In addition, members of the same household and close contacts should also get a COVID-19 vaccine when available to decrease the impact of the virus."

RE: COVID cure for MS patients.
1. MS has both genetic and environmental factors that influence this autoimmune disease.

2. One of the environmental factors identified is viral infections, in particular infections causing respiratory infections.

3. Viral infections can alter the pathology and symptoms experienced in MS.

4. Treatment for MS (DMT - disease modifying therapy) can include immunosuppressives.

5. No definite conclusion has been reached regarding immunosuppression in MS treatment with COVID. Different studies have reported conflicting morbidity/mortality data in MS patients with COVID.

6. Some studies have reported COVID infected MS patients experience an increase in MS symptoms.

7. Antibody production to COVID after vaccination may vary depending on the DMT. They believe the medication that you are taking will have the least effect.

I have no idea of the "cure" you are referring to. Hope that helped.

What Gawdzilla and Brewer said:

MS patients usually have their immune system suppressed as part of their treatment.

Quote:The concerns for patients with MS are because of an increased risk of infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and more severe disease due to taking disease-modifying therapies that have immunosuppressive effects in MS patients [47, 48] and also the fact that viral infections may contribute to MS exacerbation and relapses as an environmental factor in genetically predisposed individuals [38, 39].

There is more good news:
BIONTECH has finished a study in which mice were vaccinated against MS. The vaccine was based on the same mRNA tech as the SARS-CoV2vaccine. Results were very promising and human tests should start in ca. 2years (after tests have been performed on human cells). Mice were immune to MS. Early MS in mice could be stopped. Motoric functions even were restored.
Disclaimer: Their condition was "artificially" (whatever than means) caused by the scientists. It wasnt human MS (potentially mice cannot contract human MS at all?) they were infected with.

An according article was published in "Science" as well.

I don't think this is the place to ask the question. It's certainly worth taking up with a doctor that is familiar with your case though,

Vaccines are not cures, they are preventatives at best.

He might prefer the term prophylactic?
