A man underwent treatment for Leukemia and as part of the last stage of his treatment was given a course of stem cells with a unique genetic mutation that makes the stem cells immune to the HIV virus. He was not known to have AIDS but the HIV virus was detectable and had been confirmed periodically over 10 years.
