Everyone in the story, as he tells it, is defective and/or a monster, including the fake news media reporting on it - but him. He was so right at every turn and now that they should saint his ass for all three verified miracles. He had a tailor fit him for a cross just last week.
The first thing I thought when I read the op title was that he didn't so much admit to anything as brag about the thing establishing his bona fides.

From what I could gather, it’s a little of Column A and B. Apparently, he admitted it because there was supposed to be a big exposé somewhere exposing his past and, because it turns out it’s terrifyingly easy to spin “impregnated a 14-year-old when he was 18” into “I impregnated a 14-year-old girl when I was younger and married her instead of getting an abortion” and hope that the fact that he married her somehow absolved him in his voters’ eyes, he admitted to it. And, evidently, it seems to have worked.

I'm sticking with nothing but column douche. All he admitted to was being awesome in the eyes of his base who just love forced birth laws with no rape exceptions, statutory or otherwise.
He's willing to be and say ridiculous things to signal to those voters that he's their man.
