Noteworthy News
Official thread for me and you to post stories that catch our attention. (This is to cut back on the creation of new threads for each and every news story)

For starters:
North Carolina student denied diploma after wearing Mexican flag over graduation gown
abcnews.go.com
Quote:A North Carolina high school student said he was denied his diploma at his graduation ceremony for wearing a Mexican flag over his gown.

Ever Lopez draped a Mexican flag over his blue gown at Asheboro High School's graduation ceremony Thursday night.

Livestreamed video footage from the ceremony shows the principal ask him to take the flag off. After an unsuccessful attempt to take it off, he was handed his diploma holder, which the other students also received. But after walking across the stage, he was denied his actual diploma.

RE: Noteworthy News
I know that when I graduated high school and when my kids graduated there were pretty strict rules regarding what could and could be worn with cap and gown. If the school he attended had such restrictions I don't have an issue with them enforcing the rules...though I will say he should then not have made it all the way to the stage without the issue being addressed.

Garth Brooks Says He ‘Probably Didn’t Handle It Well’ When He Became Famous
tasteofcountry.com
Quote:Garth Brooks is the best-selling artist in the history of recorded music, and he dominated country music in the 1990s in a way that few people have ever dominated any genre, all while maintaining a steadfast public image as one of the nicest, most down-to-earth guys in country music. But in a new interview, the country icon admits that he could've handled his newfound fame better than he did.

I admit that I had a crush on him when I was a teenager.

Last Surviving Liberator Of Auschwitz Dies

Quote:Dushman, a Red Army soldier who later became an international fencer, used his T-34 Soviet tank to mow down the electric fence of Auschwitz in Nazi-occupied Poland on 27 January, 1945, helping to set prisoners in the death camp free.

“We hardly knew anything about Auschwitz,” he said, recounting that day in an interview in 2015 with Sueddeutsche daily. But he saw “skeletons everywhere”.

“They staggered out of the barracks, sat and lay among the dead. Terrible. We threw them all our canned food and immediately went on to hunt down the fascists,” he said.

My mother's last roommate in the nursing home was a survivor of Warsaw Poland. It was chilling to hear her roommate say, "They treated us like Animals."  There are still a few survivors and witnesses left, but for every year that goes by, there will be fewer, then none. It is up to every generation to never let humanity forget that horrible stain on humanity.

Ellie Kemper Made A Mistake

Quote:A week after images resurfaced of a 19-year-old Kemper being crowned the Queen of Love and Beauty at the debutante ball that had historically excluded Black and Jewish people, the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt actor addressed the controversy in an Instagram post on Monday.

"I want to apologize to the people I've disappointed, and I promise that moving forward I will listen, continue to educate myself, and use my privilege in support of the better society I think we're capable of becoming," Kemper said.

She’s being vilified for something that happened 22 years ago. Honestly, how long after the fact are people expected to apologize for unknowingly doing something that might offend people at some point in the future? Fuxxake.

Not remotely the same thing. In one case, you have a single 19 year old enter a pageant sponsored by a sketchy organization. In the other case, you have a group the fought against and tried to destroy a country.

That's not the issue....  The offense is irrelevant.

The real issue is how long will people have a stick up their ass about something that annoys them....
