Many employers want employees back full time. I’ve been reading that many want to work from home. I think there’s a trust factor that got lost during Covid. Employees don’t entirely trust their employers to not furlough them the second another catastrophe happens. Long commutes and jumping through corporate hoops I think, aren’t what employees post-Covid are interested in. I know I’m not.

I was lucky during the midst of the pandemic to find a work from home job that will always be such.  I work part time now and make a trip to the office once a week to pick up documents.  At least I have a reason to leave the house once a week.  LOL.

My daughter-in-law got a new job a couple months back and it's hybrid which is good for her as she isn't quite as disciplined as she should be for a totally remote position.

A good friend of mine has worked for a national company for about 30 years and was in and out of the office during the whole COVID thing.  They finally told her she could stay remote till she retires.

My daughter, who is the facilities manager at her job, has never had the opportunity to work remotely.  Her company has had people in and out while trying to see what works best.  She said part of the reason they wanted people in the office is that just before COVID they had signed a new lease on more square footage and want to use it...however, they are finding out that a lot of people were more productive at home.  They seem to be going case by case.

Everyone was so blind-sided that now they are trying to figure out what to do.  First it was all reactive now businesses are trying to figure out proactive solutions.

True. And I guess there are jobs that require people to be present in the office, or wherever. I'm grateful that I've worked for a firm that allowed for remote work from home during Covid. I have friends who were forced to work in the office even during the lock down, the company offered staggered schedules. Meanwhile, management all worked from home. That's just terrible, and many employers wonder why there is a labor shortage. lol

I saw that, earlier. Noticed the thread is closed. I hadn't noticed his return, but looks like it was the right choice.

I was fortunate in that I was already a remote worker when this all happened, and as it worked out, our local office was closed permanently for non-COVID related reasons about a year ago, so all of us formerly from that office were classified remote if we weren't already.

If that weren't the case, I'd have strong reservations about returning to the office full time.  I think I'd retire first

Same. I was working from home for a company that pretty much exclusively offers remote work in the states. (other countries have offices) I understand people have to do what they have to do, but it would be a struggle to work for a company who forces employees to come in during the beginning of a pandemic, when there was so much uncertainty. My heart went out to all essential workers, they literally had no other option.

Getting handover to the new house tomorrow. Very excited... The concreter who does all of this home builder's driveways told us that they've got 168 houses on the go between Hervey Bay and Bundy and there's a 2 year wait if you sign up for a new house today! So yeah, not complaining...

Fuck me! Handover tomorrow at 1:00pm.
Paid final installment in full today.

Moving in with no driveway or crossover, (they built a ramp with dirt so I can get the mustang in the garage before they start digging for the driveway in a week, then pour and another week to cure. Looks like somebody won't be cruising anytime soon!) Oven's getting installed tomorrow morning!, glass splashback got installed today, as did the aircon and hot water unit!
Just give me the fucking keys already. I'm over everything....

My husband keeps bringing up selling our house and moving. That's a big "no" from me. I told him when we moved here I wasn't moving again till they carry me out feet first.

When we moved here (a thousand mile relocation) husband was here working and I was at the old house working and packing up 14 years of stuff. Not doing that again.

The value of our house has doubled since we bought it in 2006 but the price of every other house has gone up in kind.
