I should have been clearer. Legally, his adult kids are entitled to protection, but it should have stopped when he lost the election. The Service - for reasons they haven't made public - extended that for 6 months. That extension is what I was referring to.

And I'm not sure that would work on Trump. He doesn't seem to like his kids all that much.

But while he was in office - yes - a Secret Service detail assigned to his family makes good sense from a national security standpoint.
