Texas Law could circumvent Roe V. Wade

Unless the conservative majority Supreme Court steps in (which it seems unlikely to do), Roe V. Wade may be made functionally useless by a Texas Law.
Quote:But there is another aspect of this Texas law that is extreme, even by conservatives’ forced-birth standards. The Texas law, known as SB 8, places a cash bounty on abortion providers and empowers any citizen to come collect.
The law stipulates that any US citizen can sue a Texas abortion provider, or sue a person suspected of “aiding or abetting” abortion services. The plaintiffs don’t even have to be residents of Texas to sue Texans suspected of helping people make private choices. Should the lawsuit prevail, the person who brought the suit will receive $10,000, plus attorney fees. Texas has created a cash incentive to haul not just doctors and nurses into court but also lawyers, reproductive rights counselors, and even receptionists.
This is absolutely insane! And not enough people are talking about it. This is why McConnell et al wanted Kavanaugh and Barrett on the court.
The whole tone of Church teaching in regard to woman is, to the last degree, contemptuous and degrading. - Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Texas is always attempting to pass absurd laws. They never succeed.

Never say never. There's some batshit stuff in this state. It keeps getting worse but I sort of look it as a pendulum that has just about reached its limit to the right and will have to swing back the other way. There are too many people, and corporate headquarters, moving here and diluting the good ole boy rule of the state. But it's going to take time.
Just a few days ago we hit our 15th anniversary of living in Texas...I'll still take it any day over what we left behind in SC.

Can we please (after reclaiming all federal assets) kick the former confederate states out again? They're more trouble than they're worth.

I think that the attacks on Roe will backfire, leading to a Democrat Senate & House majorities in the 2022 elections. The majority of Americans support reproductive rights & freedoms. Social conservatives will here soon rue their conservative Supreme Court majority.

I would like to think that is true, but I don't think so. The religious right wields huge power - more than ever before. Look how women denied Trump the presidency in 2016 -- oh no, wait -- they didn't. Many switched to Trump.
It is possible that the Supreme Court may uphold parts of the Texas law. Barrett is the most extreme religious person on the court, and she would ban at 0 weeks if she could. Kavanaugh has already stated that RvW has no constitutional basis.
There is a reason that almost the entire court are Catholic. It is assumed that they will obey the Pope. I wouldn't be surprised if the American bishops threaten the Supreme Court with excommunication if they don't uphold the Texas law.

It's sabotage by process. The contemporary american right is a fundamentally anti-democratic and anti-american institution. They'll keep chipping away at our republic until it's gone, because they believe it's a bad thing. The insurrection at the capital, the auto coup attempt within it's halls, and their willingness to pass legislation to challenge our rights state by state are all a symptom of their growing frustration with the rule of law by will of the people.

I kind of doubt that - my understanding of the laws says that a church that openly tries influencing government can lose their tax free status..... No way the RCC is going to pay to play...

That limit has been honored more in the breach than anything.
