Role Models

RE: Role Models
The trouble with role models is that they usually set an impossibly high standard. This is why I’ve decided to become my own role model - once you set the goal of becoming you, that ‘striving upward’ bullshit goes away.

Millions of people watch Fox News. He must be doing something right.

Millions of people also watched Hitler's hateful, fear-mongering racist conspiracy crap speeches, so are you going to say that he must have done something right as well?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Striving upward is what gives life meaning. It's good to have a lofty ideal.

Seriously, the tyrannical God who killed so many children and innocent people, ordered slavery and rape of children, finally got owned by a Roman prefect who crucified him.

Pontius Pilate is the real hero of the Bible.

Would be a nice notion I guess, if it were not mythology

Mythologies are replete with heroes.

Of course we do, but (I hate to steal your favourite line) that's not the point. There's no valid objection to finding a hero in the Bible any more than there is to finding a hero in the Eddas or the Kalevala.
