The guy never left the scene. What was stopping him from stabbing someone else? Likely nothing at all.

He did what he wanted to do - kill the MP.

Do you REALLY think that a gun somehow makes one lose control and shoot people till you run out of ammo or people?

If he had a gun it is probably more likely he would have shot Mr Amess - and stopped. Apparently that was his goal. You have zero evidence otherwise.

No - what we have here is the usual demonization of guns.

I was actually thinking more in terms of a bomb - suicide vest or some such - than a gun. The point is that using a knife as opposed to something like explosives kept other people from being injured or killed.

You're perfectly correct that I have no evidence that killing anyone besides Mr. Amess was the killer's goal, so it's lucky for me I never said that. What I said was that Muslim extremists don't care who else gets hurt as long as they reach their target.

But before we get too far along with this, let's not lose sight of the fact that the CIA was behind it.  Wink

But Mr Amess is dead.

Shooting him again won' t make him any deader.

The whole " good thing it wasn' t a gun" is a red herring.

Life choices and/or public policy decisions is choosing one probability distribution over another.  You can own an unsecured handgun in your home:  1) You may kill a hostile intruder who wants to kill you, 2) You may kill a non-hostile thief who simply wishes to steal from you, 3) You may accidentally kill a family member in #1 or #2, 4) A family member may accidentally kill you, 5) A family member, perhaps a child, may kill themselves, etc.
Actually - he did have access to deadlier weapons.

You can in fact buy a couple of liters of petrol - and glass bottles in England - all without a background check!

Petrol is pricey and in short supply. Maybe the murderous fuckhead was strapped for cash.

Is petrol more expensive than candy?

According to 37 - that' s the price of a gun.

Per unit - converting everything to grams - and expressed in pence, candy is about 18x more expensive than petrol.

You can do with this information what you will.

Edit: Then again, Hallowe’en is coming. This means that guns will be free for the asking. Wink

If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Fortunately he did not have access to more dangerous weapons.

Meanwhile in America, our Christian right and GOP in congress are going down the road of  "Hold my beer". Don't be surprised if one of our right wing nuts ends up doing the same here. I don't want that to happen, but don't be surprised.

You understand it’s already happened there, right?
