We had a bit of panic buying her in South Australia initially, but now not for some time now.

Locally, people were panic buying toilet paper. One  of those budget packs lasts me 6 months. Besides, it's not as if I'll ever run out of things to wipe my bum. I have about 50 towels which I already use for almost everything. They get washed in very hot water with a cup of bleach. 

I live in an old but changing area. The old farts like me tend to be very law abiding. Masks are mandatory in public and you need to sign in when entering a store. I use a govt tracing app and wash my hands with that alcohol based hand cleaner. 

Still don't understand why children don't need to wear masks or be vaccinated, it's not as if they're immune. Small children are disgusting with their germs at the best of times.

Went to CostCo last Saturday and they were almost out of toilet paper. I had to buy Marathon brand, as the CostCo brand was all gone. I don't normally buy more than I need for some time frame. Hoarders mess it up for everyone. I bought lamb loin chops (from New Zealand) and when I went to grill them yesterday, they reeked. I suspect that they were on a container ship a little too long before reaching shore. I bought a watermelon from CostCo a week ago Saturday, only to discover that it was rotten. It came from Mexico, but again, transit time is an issue, even if we are in southern California. I guess it's off the topic, as I have no conspiracy to name for this.

We're really lucky her in Oz. Most of our fresh produce is locally produced.  Shop usually label imported fresh stuff a such and I don't buy it.

There are more sheep in Australia than people. That means lamb (you can't buy hogett any more)  is usually available but relatively expensive.

Just had a look some meat  prices at my local supermarket:

Whole leg of lamb roast: 12.50/kg (on special)  Boneless  leg of lamb :$18.00/kg
Loin lamb chops; $27/kg    Shoulder lamb chops  $17.00kg

Rump steak $21.74/kg

Boneless pork leg   $8.50/kg

Fresh whole duck;  $10.00/kg.


I tend to buy manly chicken breast fillet at around $9.00 kg. Plus decent sausages at around $13.00 /kg. Lean mince beef 4 star. Packages state the fat content. If I'm making hamburger, it's always the cheap fatty mince as it has more flavour.

I have no idea if our food is cheap, average or expensive compared with say Canada, US and UK. -----

Last time I was in a foreign supermarket was in 2000, Tescos near Cambridge. It was much bigger than ours and had a staggering range of cheap fresh food (due to the European union) However I thought 20 pounds sterling was a bit much for a leg of lamb.  Ate a lot of chicken and bacon. My host still would not eat beef due to the recent Mad Cow outbreak; she didn't trust the government when they said beef was safe. Oh had venison, which had been a gift. Meh. Not fond of game, don't like the strong taste.
