Is it true that being hit by a paint ball can actually hurt quite a bit and leave a large bruise?

Pretty sure being shot whilst wearing a vest really smarts. (according to police TV shows)

YES!  I had a couple of students who were avid paintballers.  They'd often come in with nasty bruises on Monday, in the few places that their armor didn't protect.

A couple of them actually broke the skin.

It may be fun and games, but you really don't want to get hit by a paintball.

Man to woman, "Why do you flatten your hair?"

Woman to man, "It makes it straighter and longer."

Doctor to man, "How did you burn your dick?"

Yair. The main reason I've never tied it. I understand  it's not much fun being on the receiving end of rubber bullets. I won't even start on tasers.

You really are unlikely to get welts - maybe light bruising - if you wear protective gear. These days people wear BMX bike gear - and lots of padding. You can get hit and not even know it...

Welts and broken skin are nearly always the result of being hit on bare skin.

The 68 caliber stuff is my favorite. Years ago there was offerings in 50 caliber - but were outlawed on most playing fields because they were higher velocity and resulted in more injury.

I have not been able to play for years - but I have heard 50 cal stuff is making a comeback.

.....

Trivia - why 68 caliber?

Because the original markers had barrels made out of PVC plumbing pipe - and that is the ID measurment. I know I had fun making silencers for my pump action marker.  It made it impossible for opponents to zero in on me by sound....

Interesting trivia!  Most of my student's injuries were in the armpit area, neck, wrists, back of the knee etc., where their armor needed to be gapped to allow more freedom of movement.  We live in a beach community, so they'd often wear their armor with board shorts and a t-shirt.  I'm surprised they didn't wear flip-flops, to complete their ensemble.

I suggested chain mail for these vulnerable areas.  I had to show them what chain mail was.  Amateurs.

Good quality chain mail can be pretty costly, unless you make your own.  (I had friends in the SCA.)

I watched a documentary on costuming for the LOTR movies and one of the segments was showing how they made chain mail...good grief what a job that is!

One of my fellow physics majors was into the SCA. He used to buy coil springs used for throttle return springs on vehicles. It takes a lot of coils to make a chain mail vest! I was never taken all that much by the SCA'a antics, though I do have a coat of arms (not granted by them, btw).

A man phoned his doctor saying his wife appeared to be having an appendicitis attack.

“That’s impossible,” the physician replied. “She had an appendectomy last year. Why are you bothering me for something as stupid as that? Have you ever seen anybody with a second appendix?”

“No, you fool!” the husband replied. “Have you ever seen anybody with a second wife?”
