How about when said fringe group is widely hated in and disavowed by the larger community, despite attempts by third parties to claim said fringe groups are somehow representative of the whole?

Also, here's a bit more information on the situation with NAMBLA and the ILGA.

TL;DR: It seems to have been largely because they fell into the trap of thinking "if we shun them, who's going to be next?" (And I suspect the rest of it is because, when they had been accepted, people didn't really grasp the consequences of child sexual abuse.) And the only reason they were admitted into the ILGA in the first place is because they had bugger-all in the way of rules. Naturally, this has changed since 1979, at least for LGBT organisations, anyway. You can still see versions of this debate in some other communities, and the furry community comes most to mind (examples [which I would advise against researching on a full stomach, especially the latter] would include Rainfurrest 2015 or the controversy over individuals like Kero The Wolf).

And things have changed since then. Hell, it had changed between 1979 and 1993, as the article demonstrates.

@LadyForCamus

My point was showing the push to REDEFINE how we view pedophiles, kinda like how the word 'Gender' was REDEFINED to mean something other than what it USED to mean.

You do see the error in comparing pedophilia to gender, correct?

Except that the latter is evidence-based, and promotes the well-being of people who experience gender dysphoria.

No those two things are not remotely alike.

The other clearly promotes something negative

But it wasn't based on evidence, I posted an article from an LBGT website that admitted the American Psychiatric Association was lobbied (paid) to re-word their diagnosis.

Why, yes, our views of things do change. And small groups of people do tend to be the ones driving it. The thing is, in the case of MAPs who want to be included in LGBTQ, they’re (fortunately) making zero headway. As I said before, any MAP tries to dip their toe in the water, it gets amputated the second anyone figures out what’s happening. The only groups who they seem to be making any headway with is homophobes looking for an excuse to demonize gay people.

“…. B-But it could change!” Given that it’s well-known by this point that CSA causes a shitton of mental issues, and you can find thousands of testimonies to how it adversely effects the children subjected to it (hell, you can find over a hundred involving Larry Nassar alone) with trivial ease (indeed, just listening to Korn’s first album provides a particularly devastating demonstration), it would require them totally ceasing to give a fuck about anything. And if you’re going to ask for a link to a study of how sexual abuse affects children, here’s one with a sample size of over 3 million.
