Secular society isnt awesome. Pride, cynism, nihilism, greed, lust, anger are really strong in it.
People of faith are hard to stomach, but seculars are often wild people. 
And, the alternative is??
The OP reminds me of the fact that some children deserve (and need) to be spanked.
