So, I've read this through a few times.

I'm not seeing how it relates to or matches up with the issue of either country in regards to Russia or Ukraine.

More information please?   Great

People seem to think that it's bad for a big country to invade and control a smaller one.

We'd want to be sure that we don't have a double standard involved, where it's OK for our team but not for theirs.

You're seriously comparing the Ukraine situation to the one in Haiti? Seriously? Ukraine, a reasonably stable, somewhat prosperous country was illegally invaded by a neighbour intent on its destruction. Haiti, a desperately poor country rendered almost nonfunctional by criminal organizations, is asking for help.

How do you not see the difference?

It has nothing to do with size. Answering a legitimate(if unpopular) government's request for aid against criminal gangs trying to take over a country is not remotely the same as another country invading and trying to annex another country.

As I just pointed out above. The two things are not comparable. Therefore there is no double standard.

Oh...

Okay... that clears up a few things for me.

I'm of the opinion it's wrong for ANY country to invade ANY WHERE.

So Haiti's troubles has nothing to do with the troubles in Europe, got ya. Great

Don't buy the Denazification bullshit. Dodgy

The contents of these articles may or may not be true. No one posting on this thread really knows.

We do know that the first two sources cited are funded and operated by the US government and have always pushed the official government line. These are not objective, independent sources. If a source is funded and operated by Russia, we should be equally wary of that.

The Times is owned by Rupert Murdoch, was strongly Thatcherite, and is well-known for pushing dubious ideological narratives, including the idea that HIV doesn't lead to AIDS. It is a source to be skeptical about.

Haaretz is actually more sympathetic to an oppressed people (the Palestinians) than the New York Times. I do not know their history concerning Russia. Historically, Israeli media has strong opinions on Russia.

So, again, we don't know whether these stories are accurate or not. We do know that as skeptical people who are wary of propaganda and think for ourselves, these are sources to be very wary of.

Funny how you don't exercise the same scrutiny of and skepticism for your own sources, which are at least as susceptible to charges of bias.

Did Ukraine request armed Russian assistance in quelling corruption?

I just think it's sad that everybody knows who Luke Skywalker is but almost nobody knows Toussaint Louverture.

It's as if Haiti has never been forgiven for being the first place in the Americas to get out from under colonial rule. It's shocking what's been done to them since.
