Proxy war in Ukraine?

I think of it as a big air show.  After the war, nobody in their right mind will buy Russian-made arms, but a lot of folks'll be lining up for HIMARS and shit. Cha-ching!

No argument from me there, but so too..it would seem to me, would abandoning ukraine be proof our priorities were messed up.  Whether we take a high view focused on human life or the most cynical road based on cost, benefit, and power.

During the Rwandan Genocide, the United States government had no military response; some 800,000 human beings were viciously murdered as our government stood by & watched.

Surely, the thing to do isn't a repeat of that?

Lets say it would have taken 100 billion to have stopped that, or even try to stop it? Which, do you think, would have been the better course to take? What we did, or something else?

Agreed! But, fighting against the machete welding Hutu would have been dirt cheap, a turkey-shoot.

So is fighting against the machete wielding russians, as it turns out. Would one have been worth it but not the other?

So because the US didn't stop the Rwandan Genocide it shouldn't stop the Russian invasion

I think it's more about recalling past mistakes, which shouldn't be forgotten nor forgiven.

I think it's a cognitive loop. When some line of reasoning doesn't end with the desired conclusion, begin again at "america bad". That's why I've been saying..hey, okay, if america bad, and this is a proxy war- it's a damned good one, at least by the measures we so often hear expressed as concerns.

-and then, begin again at "america bad"....

It'll never end, that's one way it's different from the war in ukraine.

Yet, because war never ends due to its continuation from one period to another, forgetfulness is the bane of thinking all is good and right in that which finds its need in a loop without end.

Nascar may be fun for some to watch, but the dizziness experienced from such a pointless spectacle is a sure sign of its meaninglessness.

I think that might not extend the pointlessness or meaninglessness of defending your life and home from a nation trying to take both, or of helping people in those situations. Still, it would be a clear position - and not based on costs in dollars or human lives or even any disagreement on the basic facts of a war.
