What decides whose winning is who has achieved it's objectives and Russia has failed to achieve any of it's objectives.

No problem and yes his claim is bonkers.And hell even if it were true that still wouldn't mean Ukraine is losing because if this guy happens to forget America was on the winning side of WW2 despite the causalities.

Motivation matters. It may not, and often isn't, decisive, but it matters.

Russia has lost about 2000 battle tanks / 1200 of these were directly destroyed by Ukrainian armed forces.
