This in fact is what historical Tradition has handed down; in Judeo-Christian Tradition especially but by no means exclusively. More or less every culture has heard some version of it, whereas none have heard of Ramapithecus like Apes gradually giving birth to Actual Humans. If that had happened, let alone with some population of alleged 10000 apes giving birth to humans as the Evolutionists say, some culture somewhere would have recorded it historically.
