RE: Noteworthy News
I see where the "peasants" are revolting and throwing eggs at the king of Spain on his tour of the flooded areas. While I'm not proof for every weather disaster, I chose this place as potentially safe against most calamities. It has even survived two major earthquakes. One in '71 and the next in '94. I see people buying homes near oil fields, downstream of hydro (and other) dams and even in old riverbeds. Not expecting much here, but one really never knows. Try one's best, is all I can say.  Great

Now is a good time to abolish the monarchy, seize the properties, and give Charles III the Charles I treatment.

Killing royalty, while it feels just swell, isn’t a long-term solution (there’s always more waiting in the wings).

A better idea is to strike them from the public list and put them to work. The world still needs ditch-diggers.

Two-birds-one-stone approach. I don’t hate it.

I was born and raised in SO. CAL., and went through both earthquakes. The Northridge quake was one of the reasons we moved our family to Washington state late in '94. Nature can get you basically anywhere you live, sometimes you see it coming, and other times it's a rude awakening.
If/when the San Andreas fault lets go, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near there. It's long overdue for a major quake, maybe tomorrow, or maybe in 10 years? Nobody knows.

Depending on whom you choose to believe, we get anywhere from 14 000 to 20 000 earthquakes every year. Fortunately, only about 250 of them are big enough to be felt, and even fewer do any damage at all.

I hate to bust your bubble, but have you seen information on the Cascadia Subduction Zone?

It's far more 'overdue' than the San Andreas, and likely has more pent up energy. If it all breaks out in one massive quake, they'll feel it in Spokane.

The whole concept of geologic phenomena being 'overdue' is a pretty flawed concept to begin with.
