Stupid things religious people say

I wish the Secret Service could have let Trump out of the car to join those peaceful tourists.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

So the Catholic Church considers gay people to be evil or do they "only" consider gay weddings evil? I certainly don't want to wrongfully accuse them and thus persecute them.

CNA Wrote:Can a Catholic attend a same-sex wedding?

Being invited to the wedding of a family member or friend is often a cause for joy, but for many Catholics, being invited to a same-sex wedding can precipitate a deep internal conflict. How can one reconcile loyalty to family or a friendship with the teachings of the Church? Is it possible to show love and respect without compromising one’s faith?

Father Mario Arroyo, who holds a doctorate in philosophy from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross stated,

“This case, that of attending the gay wedding of a loved one, can be classified within what is known as cooperation with evil. In this case, it would be a matter of material cooperation in evil,” he explained.

“In principle, we must try to avoid cooperating with evil, because we have an obligation, conversely, to cooperate with good within society. In that context, the first attitude is one of reluctance, that is, trying to avoid participating as long as it does not cause irreparable harm to family life or friendship,” he added.

“But if that attitude is going to cause great harm, a total break, a complete breakup of family life, exceptions can be considered.”

In such a case, he said, this cooperation with evil would have to “be material, never formal. That is, never express joy or happiness at the fact that two people of the same sex get married, but simply attend a ceremony taking into account that the great harm of cutting off all communication cannot be avoided.”

"Is it possible to show love and respect without compromising one’s faith?" - At least they admit that religion/ faith is contrary to loving and respecting other people.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

"Oh look, I am a Catholic priest, and I just made up this fairy tale to entice gullible people to buy the snake oil that my religion is peddling, and to encourage those who are already buying the product to give even more money."

Quote:The Miracle at Goleta Valley Hospital

There was an emergency at the local hospital in Goleta. They needed a [Catholic] priest right away. So I jumped in my car and drove there as quickly as possible.

When I arrived at the hospital, I just walked into the emergency room the charge nurse said: “I’m sorry Father John, he’s already flat lined.“

The cardiac machines were not beeping and the nurses were getting ready to take off the sticky patches with electric wires. I felt very bad about the situation and then I noticed the man was wearing a cloth brown scapular. I took a moment and said, “Oh look; he’s wearing an old-fashioned scapular, one of the old cloth ones”. I touched the scapular and immediately the heart monitor started to beat. He opened his eyes and in an Irish accent said: “Father I’m so glad you’re here. I want to go to confession“.

The doctor came out of his office and was angry because he had already made out the death certificate. The patient looked surprised and I said, ” God bless you” and then made the sign over him very quickly. Immediately they went into action and took him into surgery.

About three weeks later, he came to see me at the parish. He said that the doctor had treated him in surgery and that he was on a waiting list to get a new heart. We prayed a little bit together and he left.

About four weeks later, the man came back to see me at the parish. He told me that he had seen the cardiologist, and the cardiologist was amazed, but that his heart was healed. He could find nothing wrong with his heart at all. So he was to keep his heart and not have to have surgery. We laughed in joy at that news.

He said that God had healed him. I was very surprised, because I don’t expect miracles to happen like this. I know they have happened, but I never thought I would see one so plain and simple and in my presence. I have never expected to see a miracle and I certainly did not cause this one. This was all the will and the work of God!

And, of course, the priest never names that man so that we could look into the medical documents and validate this fairytale.

I'd check to see if the hospital had a recent malpractice suit filed, look at JCOH reports.

Not so soon, he said it "happened" in the late 1980s.

Missed that part. I wonder why there was a delay in bringing this miracle to light?
