Usage varies. According to a common usage, to say that you can conceive of something is to imply that it is possible. So it depends upon what the person means.

Exactly what occurred to me, and had John been a little less mendacious, I'd have prompted him to clarify, but felt no such urge. In discourse and debate, it is entirely incumbent on the person making the primary or larger claim, to ensure clarity in their claims.
He also immediately went from conceive of, to conceive is possible, without any preamble, and turned the claim I made to not believe something is possible, into a claim it is impossible, despite me making no such claim. I am not about to indulge that sort of sophistry, but nor am I about to explain fully every error in reasoning he makes / is making. Especially as he has shamelessly ignored every question put to him, while stridently demanding I answer questions repeatedly, when he doesn't get the answer he wants.

I mean 'elephant' in the commonly accepted sense of a living member of the species Loxodonta africana. Like this:
I mean 'beachball' in the common sense of a light weight, brightly coloured inflatable ball used commonly at beaches. Like this.
Can you explain how a fully functional elephant with a beachball for a head is possible? I can conceive of it (I'm doing it right now, in fact) while at the same time being justified in accepting the impossibility.

Can you explain why you're implying that I said something I didn't? I'd suggest you have reading comprehension issues, but I suspect it's more to do with you not being able to handle someone disagreeing with you.

Why would it not be at least possible? Evolution has no aesthetic limit, it has a blank check: We have species that look exactly like leaves or branches. Nature loves nothing more than looking like objects in the environment.
So, I personally do not grant that a beachball elephant is impossible on account of it's absurdity alone. It certainly isn't like trying to imagine a square circle, where the impossibility is apparent from the start.
Perhaps this openness to possibility is a difference in disposition between theists and atheists.

I your god beliefs require you to posit that an elephant with a beachball for a head is possible, then your god beliefs are trash.

Okay, then let's run the thought experiment: We see species that look like rocks in environments full of rocks, and species that look like leaves in environments full of leaves. If we build a room full of beachballs and drop a simple organism in there, is it not possible that they begin to display beachball-like traits over the span of millennia?
To me, it's intellectually lazy not to be able to even contemplate the possibility of things. (And unhealthy as well, since finding possibility is a key antidote to depression.)

Speaking of intellectually lazy, how is it you are unaware that evolution is driven by selection pressures?
Oh, wait, I almost forgot -- you don't answer questions. Sorry, my bad.

And where does "selection pressures" come from? The environment.
