Quote:Okay, then let's run the thought experiment: We see species that look like rocks in environments full of rocks, and species that look like leaves in environments full of leaves. If we build a room full of beachballs and drop a simple organism in there, is it not possible that they begin to display beachball-like traits over the span of millennia?
Also yes the creature will adopt pattern etc that resemble it's environment over time even artificial environments not sure why you think that's an issue

Considering you use possibility as an escape hatch to believe in silly things without a lick of evidence is both unhealthy and lazy

If it isn't obvious to you, it's at least obvious to me that possibility does not mean actuality.
However, it is deeply incoherent to consider a proposition impossible, and at the same time ask for evidence if it. That is, of course, unless one is being sarcastic. In which case my point stands, engaging in such conversations is pointless.
Openness to evidence entails openness to possibility.

An ultimately meaningless distinction fit for mental masturbation and little else

Were did I say it was impossible? wither or not it's possible is irrelevant outside the realm of armchair waffling but this isn't even correct as one can say it's impossible and convinced that it's possible with evidence thus their is no incoherence
Quote:Openness to evidence entails openness to possibility.
No openness to evidence means your opponent actually has any also this is also wrong see above

Person A - X is impossible
Person B - Here is some evidence maybe change your assessment
Person A- Changes their assessment
Person A- But it's possible
Person B- Ignores the mental masturbation and asks for actual evidence

A beachball for a head, numpty, not something vaguely beach ball alike. Think about how ridiculous you're being. You know, just like we all know, that an elephant with a beach ball for a head is not possible.

Can you explain why you're implying that I said something I didn't? I'd suggest you have reading comprehension issues, but I suspect it's more to do with you not being able to handle someone disagreeing with you.

You said usage varies. I was clarifying my usage.
For the record, I am perfectly comfortable with people disagreeing with me.

This isn't difficult.

Why would it not be at least possible? Evolution has no aesthetic limit, it has a blank check: We have species that look exactly like leaves or branches. Nature loves nothing more than looking like objects in the environment.
So, I personally do not grant that a beachball elephant is impossible on account of it's absurdity alone. It certainly isn't like trying to imagine a square circle, where the impossibility is apparent from the start.
Perhaps this openness to possibility is a difference in disposition between theists and atheists.
Beachballs don’t got neurons.

Got it, so now you want to debate the ontology of beachballs and what sorts of things the category can include? Go ahead then.

No, I don't..but you apparently do. Clown. What's the problem, are you incapable of talking about your faith without this sort of nonsense? Is it faith chutes and elephant balls all the way down?

Precisely; without granting possibility I'm incapable of doing much else. And surely, that's understandable.
