I learned over the years that if I didn't have something nice to say, then I should remain silent.
With that in mind I have this to say about Charlie Kirk's passing:

Predictably, after a murder likely motivated by hatred, people on X are gleefully expressing their hatred of the other party.

First, the shooter is in custody. Then, he is not the shooter but an entity known to law enforcement who was only charged with obstruction. Then, a person of interest is in custody and the FBI is confident that he is the shooter. Finally, the person of interest is released.
Holy shit. That's not something you see very often. The fact that the person of interest in a murder case was released so quickly means they had no credible evidence on him at all, after having high confidence he was the perp. Incompetence? Bad reporting? A slippery assassin?

You could have stopped there. That goes for anything with the current administration.

And this is why we don’t have sympathy for the motherfucker. That and he only seems to have a problem with America’s gun violence when it’s a trans person holding the trigger.

That's because Trump put podcast hosts in charge of the FBI and fired all the competent agents because he thought they were woke.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

IKR? They condemn an act of political violence by promoting more political violence.

And not surprisingly, this is feeding into the narrative that Christian conservatives are persecuted. When it rains, it pours.

One shot, one kill is the sniper's mantra. No waste, no collateral damage, no unnecessary drawing of attention. Accordingly, they most often use bolt-action rifles rather than semi-autos. The police recovered such a weapon from the scene of the crime. Maybe this shooter is a bit more serious than the would-be assassins who took shots at Trump. As of now, the police don't even know who he is.
I'm fantasizing that Charlie Kirk was just a practice run, a warm-up before going after Trump. A man can dream, right?
