Actually, a lot can be done to address the drug problem in the US, primarily collapse the demand. Claw back the obscene billions give to ICE and the money being used to blow up boats and open a fuck ton of addiction treatment centres.

Or Trump could pardon a guy convicted of trafficking 400 tons of cocaine into the U.S.

Quote:President Donald Trump said Friday that he will be pardoning former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, who in 2024 was convicted for drug trafficking and weapons charges and sentenced to 45 years in prison.

The president explained his decision on social media by posting that "according to many people that I greatly respect," Hernandez was "treated very harshly and unfairly."

In March of last year, Hernandez was convicted in U.S. court of conspiring to import cocaine into the U.S.A.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The U.S. can do a lot to stem the flow of illegal drugs. That would start by legalizing possession of small quantities, encouraging treatment, and emphasizing rehabilitation for drug traffickers. There are many steps that would loosen the grip that organized crime has on the drug trade. That is the number one obstacle to reducing demand.

Yup, also if people quit buying it, there'd be no drug lords. Fat chance of that, though.

And as for the murders in international waters, when the chump leaves office, all those involved in it are liable for crimes. Chump's off the hook because of a SCOTUS being in his pocket.

You don’t need all people to stop buying it, just enough to make it not worth the risk. That said, rehab has a pretty decent success rate. Not nearly perfect to be sure, but good enough to make investing in it worthwhile.

I can't speak about other drugs, but I've enjoyed prepackaged, industry-grown marijuana, and in every instance it has been better quality and competitively-priced.

If this holds true with other drugs, the simple fact of legalizing selected drugs would probably go far to undercut their illicit market and thereby make its profit margins unattractive.

Many years ago, I got opioids after tooth work. Nowadays, as far back as 10-12 years, I don't get them. After foot surgery, I used some, but stopped asap, because of the effects. I feel no need for further loss of IQ points.

Worth it, sure. Just think how the gov here in the USA would implement that, though.

Simple, they won't.

Your current government? Not a snowball’s chance in a blast furnace. Treating addicts isn’t nearly as sexy as blowing up what they claim - without evidence - are drug boats.

Illicit drugs, like anything else, are a matter of supply and demand. The surest way to dry up the supply is to end the demand.
