The Atheist Experience TV Show

RE: The Atheist Experience TV Show
I'm actually subscribed to them on Youtube and I have a link in my favorites tab to their website and I visit it occasionally.

Matt Dilihaunty (if I spelled that correctly) seem like a very intelligent and nuanced man as are the others on the channel. I have a great deal of respect for them and what they do and even though they're a public broadcast channel show on a shoebox budget, they still take a LOT of flak by the religious folks (both sane and insane) desbite being such a modest outlet for our minority.

I hope to see more of that sort of thing in the future and in Texas of all places. It makes me feel a bit better for moving here from Indiana.
If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925

Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan

I love learning of new Atheist Talk Shows. From what I breifly watched of this one, its awesome. I like the kind of open forum feel to it. I'm not local to Austin TX so this is the first I've watched it but I have heard about it. I don't have alot of time to watch these shows but it helps me keep current on issues, and I like hearing different opinions.

I have seen several episodes on youtube. Its a great show. It's educational and the crazy theist make the show incredibly entertaining and actually hurt the credibility of their religion when they call in. They usually go down like this...

Q: "why do you believe that to be true?"
A: "because the bible says it true"
Q: "why do you believe the bible is true"
A: "because the bible says the bible is true"

Yeah some of them can get really weird and dumb. Just wait until you hear a Solipsist call in, oh shit...

Whilst the crazy theist callers can be quite funny, I actually like it when they get atheists (or not so dumb theists) call in. It means they can actually have more thoughtful and constructive conversations.

I think they should have more time; 1 hour every week is tight. As to the callers, perhaps a mix alternating theists with atheists. Some atheists calling are very boring.

They used to have an hour and a half, but I will still argue thats not enough time. They always have to cram things in really fast and speed callers up that may have good points. I do agree that the atheists are usually boring because there's not too much we disagree with and it becomes trivial. They always say that there target audience is the theist who's on the fence, or the cultural religious person that follows the religion of his region or country but doesnt really buy it completely. Which is about 50-60% of the population if you ask me.

I watch the Atheist Experience every week. Never miss an episode.

And my signature is something that Matt Dillahunty said word for word on one show - though I did find out later that Matt was quoting Philip K Dick. But anyway, it was the Atheist Experience that introduced me to that great quote that pretty much sums everything up for me.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.
